Reason #48 Why Having a Preschooler Rocks

Katie has been wanting so badly to do a cartwheel.  Her gymnastics instructor has been trying every week to show her how.  So, I thought, I’ll just teach her.  I mean, I must have done 5,329 of them when I was a child.

So, we did them the other morning until we were laughing so hard we were falling over.  (I may or may not have pulled a muscle in my hip when I was doing them, however!)

She didn’t perfect her cartwheels, but she showered me with smiles, hugs, and kisses because I did them with her.  Those minutes spent giggling and falling over made her happier than I could have ever anticipated.

Moments like that are the ones that I hope she always remembers.  When she’s a grown woman, with children of her own, I hope she flashes back to doing cartwheels with me.  I hope she remembers just how joyous she has made me.

When was the last time you did a cartwheel?  Should you be inspired to do one, I have a word of advice.  Stretch!

Reason #63 Why Having a Preschooler Rocks

This morning we were running errands when Katie spotted a huge fountain and wanted desperately to get closer.

We didn’t have a ton of time to finish our shopping before we had to hurry home for lunch and naps, but she asked so nicely that I indulged her.

We sat and watched the fountain for 15 minutes and she laughed with glee every time the water shot up.

There was no errand more important that seeing how happy that little bit of time in front of a fountain–a fountain that I’ve looked right past more times than I can count–made her .

Lunch was delayed, naps were late, but we were happy.

Reason #27 Why Having a Preschooler Rocks

I had the pleasure of spending an entire half hour this morning giggling, while practicing nose (Eskimo) kisses, butterfly kisses, and bunny kisses with Katie.

Seriously…it just doesn’t get much better than that.

Reason #26 Why Having a Preschooler Rocks

We had a tea party that lasted all morning long.

Katie dreamed up the menu…

…kept my cup full…

…and gave me memories that will last a lifetime.

She’s a delightful host, that Katie.

Reason #37 Why Having a Preschooler Rocks

Need to bake a cake for a special occasion?  Cookies for your husband’s office?  Have your preschooler help.  If your treats come out inedible/disgusting, simply say, “Our little one just loves to bake.  Isn’t she cute?”

Katie and I baked a cake today for my uncle’s birthday and I am a hit or miss baker at best.  But, with Katie’s help, I had a built-in disclaimer and  I couldn’t lose.   She’s pretty handy like that.
